Oscar Winski Company, Inc. Receives US Dept of Defense Award

June 21, 2011

Oscar Winski Company, Inc. is now a recipient of the United States Department of Defense “Above And Beyond Award”.

At the Indiana Employer Awards Banquet, held in Indianapolis this past Friday, Oscar Winski Company received the award, which is presented in limited numbers annually.  Recognition is given to employers who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.  The award was presented to Oscar Winski Company by Army Major General R. Martin Umbarger, who currently is serving as the Adjutant General for the Indiana Army and Air National Guard.

Our company now employs approximately thirty (30) military veterans, which includes a growing number of men who have served in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Some of these men have served in either the Indiana National Guard or a military Reserve unit, and they have been deployed on multiple tours of duty in war zones.

The keynote address at the banquet was presented by Mr. Ron Young, who is a retired Army Major General and who now serves at the Pentagon as the Executive Director for the Department of Defense’s Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR).  During his presentation, Mr. Young noted that only 6% of U.S.companies now have management teams with military experience.  As a result, most corporate managers do not have a good understanding of the caliber of potential employees with military backgrounds.  He repeatedly thanked those companies, which received the awards, for their efforts in hiring military veterans.

Some other companies or organizations with Indiana operations, which also received the “Above And Beyond Award”, are AT&T; Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.; FedEx Ground; Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department; Marion County Sheriff’s Department; Michelin/BF Goodrich Tires; Pricewaterhouse Coopers, LLP; Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc.; Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana; and the University of Notre Dame.
