Environmental Equipment That Minimizes Our Impact

Over the years, merging what we know about metals recycling processes with what we continue to learn about preserving the environment, Oscar Winski Company has made, and will continue to make, the investments needed to conduct our business with minimal impact on the land, water and air that sustains us.

After all, the idea is to optimize, not offset, the environmental benefits of metals recycling.

Oil Recycling

Oscar Winski recycles 100 percent of the oils used in its operations. At the heart of the process are eight 1,000-gallon oil–water separation tanks that filter the water, leaving the oil and other more viscous fluids behind for collection by a third-party oil recycling source.

The tanks are drained and cleaned at least once a year, sometimes twice, and are inspected monthly, even though it is not mandated by law.

Emissions Monitoring

Systems inside Oscar Winski Company are in place to point-source monitor and document the emissions, per state requirements, of all torch-cutting operations. OWC inspects these systems on a regular basis and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM)inspects as needed.

“For Our Future”

Looking to the near future, OWC is considering investments in:
• Specially designed evaporators that process water-based cooling fluids used in machining processes. These fluids are often found on scrap metal turnings and borings that come in to be recycled.
• High-tech air filtering systems for our stainless steel cutting facility.
